Residents of all regions are against any territorial concessions

As of June 2023, the vast majority of Ukrainians (84%) continue to believe that no territorial concessions are acceptable in the war waged by Russia against our country. It is noteworthy that this view is held even if the war lasts longer and there are other threats.

This is evidenced by a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology. At the same time, only 10% of respondents believe that it is possible to give up some territories to achieve peace and preserve independence.

The sociologists noted that during the year from May 2022 to May 2023, there were virtually no significant changes in public sentiment.

The vast majority of respondents (82-87%) were against territorial concessions every time, and an absolute minority (8-10%) were ready for them.

Residents of all regions are against any territorial concessions. In particular, among residents of the east, 75% are against concessions (only 13% are ready for concessions), and among residents of the south, 86% are against concessions (only 8% are ready).

In addition, the vast majority of citizens are against any concessions, regardless of the language they speak at home. Thus, while among Ukrainian-speaking citizens 85% are against concessions (10% are ready for concessions), among Russian-speaking citizens 80% are against concessions (and only 13% are ready for concessions).

It is noteworthy that there were only 19 respondents in the sample (out of 1029) who continue to identify themselves as Russians. Among them, 15 rejected any concessions.

According to Anton Grushetsky, Deputy Director of the KIIS, the fact that Ukrainians remain steadfast in their refusal to make concessions despite all the losses and destruction demonstrates their high resilience and understanding of the impossibility of a true and just peace without the return of their territories.

"It is also fundamentally important that this resilience and steadfastness is characteristic of all Ukrainians, regardless of their region of origin, language or nationality," the sociologist added.

Earlier it was reported that the majority of Ukrainians would not agree to Russia's concessions on returning to the demarcation line by February 24. According to the survey, the majority of Ukrainians now oppose direct negotiations with Russia to achieve peace (63.9%).

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the vast majority of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine will win the war against Russia. At the same time, there are no significant regional differences in the belief that our country will defeat the aggressor.
