In Ukraine, the validity period of an electronic prescription has been significantly extended: what it means

Patients will be able to visit the doctor less frequently

The validity period of an electronic prescription has been significantly extended in Ukraine. It has been extended from 30 to 90 days.

This information was provided by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. This extension pertains to medications that patients purchase at their own expense.

As a result, patients will not only need to visit the doctor less frequently to renew their prescriptions, but they will also find it more convenient to redeem e-prescriptions, as they will now be issued for a treatment course lasting up to 90 days.

However, it's important to note that prescriptions for narcotic medicines will remain valid for 10 days, while prescriptions for medications subject to reimbursement or those provided on preferential terms, as well as extemporaneous medicines, will remain valid for 30 calendar days.

"You can still redeem an electronic prescription at a pharmacy that participates in the electronic healthcare system. You can find a suitable pharmacy by using the 'Electronic Map of ePrescription Drug Outlets' dashboard. To do this, simply select your region, type, and the name of your locality. The dashboard will then display a map with markers indicating available pharmacies, along with a list of pharmacy addresses that dispense medications via e-prescription," the statement explained.

As previously reported by OBOZ.UA, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine announced that starting April 1, prescription drugs could be obtained from pharmacies using electronic prescriptions. Paper prescriptions will continue to remain valid, at least until the end of martial law.
