Gynecologist told what female secretions should definitely be paid attention to

The field of women's health is delicate and extremely important. Girls are usually embarrassed to ask questions about their body and puberty. In the future, this can lead to an inability to seek help in time. For example, not all women know that vaginal discharge is usually normal, but some of it may indicate inflammatory or infectious diseases.

Female discharge is made up of water, mucus, normal bacteria, and cells in the vagina and cervix. Jessica V. Keeley, MD, told Northwestern Medicine what can affect the nature of the discharge and how to avoid missing a pathological process.

Normal female discharge is necessary because it cleanses and moisturizes the vagina, protecting against infections. In different women, it can be thick or thin, white or clear, and can be from 1 to 4 ml per day.

The nature of the discharge may vary depending on the day of the menstrual cycle or if you are taking contraceptives. However, you should pay special attention to some changes, as they can be pathological.

In this case, they are caused by inflammation, disruption of the normal microflora, or even sexually transmitted infections. Jessica W. Keeley advises to see a doctor if you have the following complaints along with a change in the nature of your discharge

  1. Itching of the vagina and the area around it;
  2. Redness, pain and swelling;
  3. Foamy green-yellow or bloody discharge;
  4. Unpleasant odor of the discharge;
  5. Pain during urination or sexual intercourse;
  6. Fever;
  7. Lower abdominal pain or pelvic pain.

The doctor assures that in most cases, these symptoms are easily treatable with medication, but it should be under the supervision of specialists.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL told about the gynecologist's mistake. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office is investigating the circumstances of the cesarean section, after which the woman had to have her uterus removed.
