Top-level account logged in: the Verkhovna Rada voiced versions of cyberattack on state registries
The large-scale cyberattack on the state registers of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine was well and systematically prepared, and the entry was made from one of the highest-level accounts. The reason could be either phishing (obtaining confidential data by deception) or bribery of employees who had access to the registers
This opinion was voiced by Oleksandr Fediienko, chairman of the Subcommittee on Cyberspace Security, Government Communications, Cryptographic Information Protection of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence. On December 23, the MP commented on the situation for Radio Liberty.
He does not know what exactly happened. It is possible that someone recruited an employee of this institution; organized a multi-level mechanism and planted a flash drive.
"There may be phishing of the computers of all employees who may be working in a closed circuit, remotely, which is prohibited in principle. So it's not Vasia, Petia, or anyone else. This is a well-planned cyberattack that could have been carried out with sufficient system organization," Fediienko said.
According to him, the databases were saved. If this is the case, the parliamentarian suggested that in about a week or two the registers will begin to "gradually and gradually recover."
As a reminder, on the evening of December 19, the Ministry of Justice announced the largest hostile cyberattack on state registries in recent times. The Russians' goal was to disrupt Ukraine's critical infrastructure.
The cyberattack is likely to be carried out by hackers affiliated with the Russian GRU intelligence service.
