On Tuesday, December 12, the state of emergency in the Vinnytsia region was lifted due to the outbreak of hepatitis A on October 30, 2023. The danger of morbidity in the region has passed.

The head of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration, Serhii Borzov, posted this on Facebook. He named one of the main reasons for the massive outbreak in the region.

"Today, at an extraordinary meeting of the regional commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergencies, it was decided to terminate the 'emergency' regime in Vinnytsia region. I remarked on the relevant services whose actions or inaction led to a massive outbreak of hepatitis A," wrote the head of the Vinnytsia Regional State Administration.

Borzov emphasized that it is necessary to develop a "road map" with a clear algorithm of actions of all structures and authorized persons responsible for each stage of the response to such situations.

"It is necessary because, at the beginning of the epidemic, we did not receive timely information about the outbreak, which led to the loss of time that was essential for effective epidemiological research," the head of Vinnytsia Regional State Administration emphasized.

According to Serhii Borzov, as of December 12, 30 patients with hepatitis A are being treated in the region's medical institutions. They are coming out of the acute stage and will be discharged from hospitals soon.

Borzov also assured that the danger of morbidity has passed, but medical monitoring of contact persons in the hepatitis A foci continues.

As a reminder, in October, an outbreak of viral hepatitis A was recorded in one of the districts of the Vinnytsia region. In particular, 60 people were hospitalized with a confirmed diagnosis of hepatitis A, including 14 children.

Later, 100 people were hospitalized with suspected cases of the disease. All of them live in different neighborhoods of Vinnytsia and the region.

At the time, the Ministry of Health said that the outbreak of viral hepatitis A in the region could be linked not only to drinking water but also to food. An emergency was declared in the Vinnytsia region, and emergency vaccination of those who came into contact with patients with hepatitis A began.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, more than 2 thousand doses of the vaccine were delivered to the Vinnytsia region for free vaccinations to eliminate the hepatitis A outbreak. They were received by 669 medical workers and 151 people from the circle of contacts - relatives and friends of patients who were diagnosed with hepatitis.
