Ukraine's ammunition shortage is unlikely to be resolved this year - Der Spiegel

Der Spiegel pointed out how the shortage of ammunition could affect Ukraine's resilience

Ukraine may not be able to withstand the pressure of the Russian army, despite all the motivation of its defenders. This is because of the shortage of ammunition, which "is unlikely to be resolved this year."

This is stated in an article by the German publication Der Spiegel. In it, the journalists focused on the theses that were presented at the Munich Security Conference on February 16-18.

It is noted that at the event, which was attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the heads of intelligence services of many countries discussed the difficult situation in which the Ukrainian Defense Forces are currently facing.

Among the key theses voiced at the conference, the publication highlighted the following:

- the Ukrainian army will have to go only on the defense and try to hold the front without losing too many soldiers;

- the Russians are able to deliver fresh equipment and troops to the front line when Ukraine is short of ammunition.

Der Spiegel also emphasized how German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dodged the question of providing Ukraine with German-Swedish Taurus air-to-surface cruise missiles with a range of more than 500 km.

"Until the European defense industry gains momentum, we will pay with our lives," the newspaper quoted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba as saying.

He also asked U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken for long-range ATACMS missiles for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"They are urgently needed to cut off the Russian army from supply routes," the Foreign Minister warned.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, Czech President Petr Pavel said that Prague had found 800 thousand pieces of ammunition abroad that it could transfer to Ukraine. He emphasized that the country could deliver them in a matter of weeks, but it needs to secure rapid funding from the United States, Germany, Sweden and other partners.

At the same time, Denmark has expressed its readiness to transfer all of its artillery to Ukraine. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also called on other European countries to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with air defense equipment and ammunition.
