US President Donald Trump has instructed Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg to end the Russian-Ukrainian war in 100 days. Nevertheless, the American political establishment does not believe that the new head of the White House will be able to realize his plans.

Making a deal with Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin will be much more difficult than Trump promised during the election campaign. This is stated in the article by The Wall Street Journal.

The article says that the appointment of retired Lieutenant General Kellogg as special envoy to Ukraine is perceived as the first step in peace talks that Trump intends to control himself. However, it is unlikely that the American president will be able to put an end to Russian aggression easily.

According to John Bolton, former US National Security Advisor in the Trump administration, the president may force Ukraine to make devastating concessions to Moscow in future negotiations. He emphasized that Trump likes Kellogg because he "never expresses his opinion unless asked." Bolton also believes that Kellogg is unlikely to be a deterrent against the influence of the Russian dictator.

Russia has not expressed any interest in cooperating with Kellogg. At the same time, the Kremlin suggests that an understanding between Trump and Putin could lead to improved relations between Russia and the United States.

Kellogg's former colleagues explain that he was appointed special envoy to Ukraine after he co-authored a peace plan that criticized the Joe Biden administration for its slow provision of military aid and accused it of provoking Moscow by pushing Kyiv to join NATO. Kellogg noted that supplying more weapons to Ukraine could be used as a stick to force Moscow to negotiate.

As a reminder, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, the US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, chosen by Trump, postponed his visit to Ukraine for legal reasons. Nevertheless, Kyiv is preparing for Ukrainian-American contacts at the highest level.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that dictator Vladimir Putin was "destroying" Russia by refusing to conclude an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. He also hinted that he gets along with him "very well" and may meet and talk with him in the near future.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, according to CNN, Trump instructed his aides to organize a phone call with Putin in the first days after the inauguration. The purpose of the call is to discuss their personal meeting in the near future to "try to find a way to end the war in Ukraine."
