"There is only one strategy": Trump says he plans to meet with Putin "as soon as possible" and speaks out on Ukraine war

US President-elect Donald Trump is going to meet with the Russian dictator "as soon as possible" after his inauguration on January 20. The Kremlin leader, according to the American president, is also looking forward to this meeting because his war against Ukraine is "not going well for him."
Trump made this statement on Monday, January 13, Reuters reports. He did not disclose any details about the schedule of the first meeting between the two heads of state after the start of Russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
According to Trump, he wants to meet with Putin as soon as possible, but this meeting cannot take place before the inauguration of the US president. He also added that the only strategy that can end the Russian-Ukrainian war "depends on Putin."
"There's only one strategy, and it's up to Putin, and I can't imagine he's too happy with the way things have gone, because it hasn't gone very well for him either. And I know he wants to meet, and I'm going to meet very quickly. I would have done it sooner, but... you have to get to the office (the White House – Ed.). You have to be there for some things," he said.
Trump did not disclose any details about the schedule of the upcoming meeting, which will be the first for the heads of the United States and Russia after the start of full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine.
The day before, Trump's future national security adviser Mike Volz said that a phone call between the US president and Putin could take place in the "coming days or weeks."
Earlier, Volz said that Trump was ready to lift restrictions on long-range weapons for Ukraine with one goal in mind: to force Putin to negotiate. The future US National Security Advisor is convinced that the Kremlin's economy and military machine will run out of steam very quickly. And the United States can use certain levers of influence, one of which is the lifting of restrictions on long-range weapons, to make the Russian dictator more compliant.
