"There are two reasons for the delay": Dmytro Kuleba says when Ukraine's ambassador to Hungary will be appointed

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba explained the delay in the appointment of Fedir Shandor as Ukraine's new ambassador to Hungary. According to him, there were two reasons for the delay: the need for his dismissal from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and a special vetting procedure.

Kuleba said this on Monday, January 29, during a press conference following a meeting with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in Uzhhorod. He assured that Sandor will be appointed ambassador "any time now."

"There were two reasons for the delay in this issue. The first reason is that he had to resign from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is a big problem, but some kind of legal model seems to have been found. The second is that the procedure of special checks for ambassadorial candidates and for already appointed ambassadors has been restored," Kuleba said.

According to the Foreign Minister, Shandor, as far as he knows, has either successfully passed this check or is currently at the final stage of its completion.

As a reminder, the post of Ukraine's ambassador to Hungary has been vacant since July 2022 amid difficult relations between the two countries. In July 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Lyudmyla Nepop from this position.
