Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met in Kyiv on November 24. The leaders discussed the situation on the battlefield, the defense needs of the Ukrainian army, the need to strengthen air defense at the front, and Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

Zelensky announced this on his official Telegram channel. "I welcome President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs to Ukraine! We discussed in detail our relations at the level of the EU institutions. Latvia fundamentally supports Ukraine's full accession to the EU," he said.

The Ukrainian leader thanked Latvia for its "readiness to maintain the existing energetic approach to EU cooperation with Ukraine."

"We expect the EU to fulfill its promise to start negotiations in response to Ukraine's full implementation of all recommendations," Zelensky said.

During the joint press conference, the President of Ukraine emphasized that Latvia has been helping Ukraine since the first hours of the full-scale Russian invasion, and that its contribution is"one of the most significant."

"Today, I informed Mr. President of Latvia about the situation on the battlefield, our capabilities and defense needs of Ukraine. We discussed how to make the supply and production of the necessary shells and weapons for our defense sustainable," Zelensky said.

He also added that he had asked Rinkēvičs to support Ukraine with armored vehicles to evacuate wounded Ukrainian soldiers from the battlefield, as such medevacs are extremely needed at the front.

The leaders also discussed the possibility of strengthening Ukraine's air defense system, particularly on the front line to provide more movement opportunities for Ukrainian soldiers, as well as in the Black Sea coastal zone, which would give more strength to Ukraine's economy.
