Prosecutor General Kostin announces his resignation amid scandals with the Medical Expert Commission: all the details

Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin resigned from his post

On Tuesday, October 22, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andrii Kostin resigned. This happened after a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council held by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the immoral situation with fake disabilities of government officials.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General. Andrii Kostin said that he believes the president's position on personal responsibility is absolutely correct.

He stated that inspections are currently underway at all levels of the state, and criminal proceedings are being investigated. And many shameful facts of abuse have been revealed in the system of prosecutors' offices in Ukraine. Therefore, Kostin considers it necessary to resign as Prosecutor General.

"I believe that the position of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is absolutely correct that not only should all unlawful decisions on disability, relevant pension, and other accruals be canceled, but there should be not only clear legislative and organizational changes but also personal responsibility. Including political responsibility," the Prosecutor General emphasized.

Andrii Kostin thanked the President of Ukraine and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for their trust.

"But in this situation, I think it is right to announce my resignation from the post of Prosecutor General," he emphasized.

It is worth noting that after the NSDC meeting on the situation with the MSEC and the abuse of disability by officials of various state bodies, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that there should be political responsibility of Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin.

"I believe that responsibility for the situation now should be personal," Zelenskyy said.

The Head of State instructed the Prime Minister of Ukraine to solve the problem at the level of central executive authorities, in particular the relevant ministries. Zelenskyy emphasized that personnel decisions are needed.

"There must also be political responsibility of the Prosecutor General for the situation in the prosecution bodies of Ukraine," the President said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the NSDC meeting, a list of decisions "that will restore justice" was identified. In particular, it is the digitalization of the processes of passing all stages of medical and social expert commissions, and real verification of declarations of MSEC members.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

Earlier it became known that almost all prosecutors of Khmelnytsky region have a second-group disability, which was "assigned" to them by the scandalous head of the regional MSEC (medical and sanitary commission) Tetiana Krupa. Prosecutors with such disabilities continue to receive pensions from the state, sometimes hundreds of thousands of hryvnias a year.

The journalists then examined the income declarations of the heads of regional prosecutor's offices and compiled a rating of regional prosecutors who receive the largest pensions. In some cases, the budget spends more than a million hryvnias a year on one such "pensioner". Most of the prosecutors started receiving pension payments at the age of 38-42, and the "record holder" first declared a pension at the age of 36.
