Kallas comments on Rasmussen's statement on "deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine"

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas responded to the statement by former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen about the possible deployment of NATO troops to Ukraine. She stressed that no country has ever voiced such a desire.

The politician said this in a comment to the media. Her words were quoted by the Estonian public broadcaster ERR.

The day before, Rasmussen suggested that a group of NATO countries might send their troops to Ukraine.

He immediately clarified that this would be the case if the Ukrainian state does not receive clear security guarantees at the upcoming July NATO summit in Vilnius. Thus, in his opinion, some states "may want to send their armed forces" to help Ukraine.

For her part, the head of the Estonian government said that NATO states are not discussing any plan to send their military to Ukraine.

"All states provide some kind of assistance to Ukraine. But not a single country has declared its desire to intervene in this war, to send its military to it. I have not heard of such plans," Kaja Kallas said.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made it clear that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO is not relevant until the war is over. However, according to him, the country is getting closer to the Alliance thanks to Western weapons and military training.

Some officials say that after the NATO summit, Ukraine will be subject to an Israeli-style "Kyiv Treaty". Read the article to find out what security guarantees the allies are preparing for our country to join the Alliance.
