"After that, we are in the European Union." Kuleba names three steps to Ukraine's full membership in the EU
Ukraine will be three steps away from full membership in the European Union once the accession negotiations are completed. The negotiations will begin on June 25.
This was announced by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba during a telethon. The diplomat noted that Ukraine's accession to the EU will be an event of global significance.
"Tomorrow there will be an inaugural part, then there will be six clusters of negotiations that will open and close, specialists in the relevant fields will work and bring Ukraine's legislation in line with EU standards," Kuleba said.
According to the Foreign Minister, these three steps will include, in particular:
- The European Commission's conclusion on the successful completion of negotiations and Ukraine's compliance with the accession criteria;
- the decision to sign the Agreement on Ukraine's accession to the EU;
- ratification of the agreement by the parliaments of the EU member states and Ukraine's full membership in the European Union.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that June 25, when negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU are to begin, will be the day to which the Ukrainian state has been striving for decades. According to him, Ukraine will not be sidetracked from its path to a united Europe.
As reported by OBOZ.UA:
- The European Union decided to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the bloc on June 25. Similar negotiations will begin with Moldova.
- On June 21, Zelensky signed a decree approving the composition of the delegation to participate in the EU accession talks. It will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.
- The negotiations will be based on a new model. The agreement contains 35 chapters, and a delegation will be set up for each chapter. According to the standard scheme, one of the chapters is opened and negotiations on another chapter are not opened until it is closed.
- President of the Ukrainian Foreign Policy Association Volodymyr Khandohiy believes that 2030 is the most realistic date for Ukraine's accession to the EU.
- Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine has set a record by going from applying for EU membership to starting negotiations in just over two years.
