On Tuesday, July 2, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine, and plans to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, this is the first visit to our country by the Hungarian official who does not hide his friendly attitude towards the aggressor Russia. The visit was not officially announced as it may have been changed at any time.

The head of the Hungarian government's press service, Bertalan Havasi, told the media that one of the topics of the talks between Orban and Zelenskyy would be "the possibility of creating peace." They will also discuss current issues of Hungarian-Ukrainian bilateral relations.

Earlier, The Guardian reported that one of Europe's most pro-Russian leaders was going to Kyiv in a surprise visit just as Hungary took over the EU Council presidency. Several sources in Budapest said that Orban would meet with Zelenskyy in Kyiv. The Office of the President of Ukraine did not comment on the possible visit, while another source in Kyiv confirmed the plans the day before, saying, "Orban will be here tomorrow, unless there are last-minute changes."

As previously reported, on June 27, Viktor Orban and Zelenskyy had a lively conversation at the EU Council summit in Brussels. It is still unknown what the leaders of the two countries talked about, but it was noted that it was the head of the Hungarian government who initiated a brief conversation with the Ukrainian leader.
