In the USSR, a country of missiles and shortages, there was a certain cult of things. Clothes, dishes, household items, and even bags were not thrown away, because Soviet people were used to saving and putting everything away for a rainy day.

At one time, this interesting construction called a newspaper rack hung in many hallways of Soviet apartments.

The USSR was called a "reading country," and until televisions became widely used, this object was in great demand.

Newspapers were used for convenience, so that periodicals were always at hand and did not create clutter in tiny apartments. And keeping newspapers became a good tradition – they could come in handy in the household, for example, they were used to wrap dried fish or wash windows and mirrors.

Newsstands were mostly tabletop, but there were also hanging versions and designs in the form of small tables. The Albatross was perhaps the most popular hanging model.
