You can't use it all the time: car function that leads to extreme gasoline consumption is named

It is better to turn off cruise control on uneven roads

Cruise control was designed to help drivers reduce fuel consumption, among other things. However, it turned out that in certain situations, it can increase it.

According to the Express, the RAC Fuel Watch center drew attention to this. According to the center, cruise control helps to reduce costs only when driving on a flat surface with slight differences in relief. So, by helping to maintain a constant speed on the highway, it really saves money, as unnecessary acceleration is blocked and excess fuel is not burned. However, as soon as the driver has to turn onto an uneven road, the system begins to react more slowly to changes in slope and fuel consumption begins to rise above average.

When reaching the top of a hill, drivers usually take their foot off the accelerator to maintain a constant speed when going downhill. In this case, it takes longer for the function to calculate the required power because it cannot see the change in the angle of incline ahead. This can lead to worsening fuel consumption conditions, the RAC said. In this case, cruise control will keep the gasoline or diesel supply on longer than necessary.
