The 96th Oscar ceremony was not without scandalous antics and embarrassing situations. Thus, the famous American wrestler, and part-time actor and performer John Cena went on stage completely naked, and his intimate parts were covered by a huge envelope with the inscription "Best Costume Design", because it was in this nomination that Cena announced the winner.

OBOZ.UA collected the relevant photos in this article. As it turned out, the appearance of the naked celebrity was a planned humorous event. Thus, the organizers decided to recall the old "naked" scandal of 1974.

In 1974, when producer Michael Phillips was preparing to present the nominees for Best Picture and actress Elizabeth Taylor was about to announce the winner, artist, photographer, and LGBT rights activist Robert Opel suddenly ran onto the stage. He showed a peace sign and then disappeared, leaving behind a trail of shock, confusion, and embarrassment. Later, several versions were voiced of what Opel wanted to do with his "naked" action. According to one of them, the photographer was protesting against the ban on nude beaches. According to another, he wanted to show people that they shouldn't be ashamed of their bodies.

And in 2024, Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel recalled an old incident and suggested that John Cena announce the winners of the Best Costume Design category naked as well. The wrestler looked embarrassed and honestly admitted that he thought it was a bad idea. Nevertheless, he appeared on stage naked.

At first, Sina covered his private parts with an envelope, and later he was given a cloak. The outfit resembled the clothes of the ancient Greek gods.

The statuette for the best costumes, by the way, went to the movie Poor Things.
