Without stopping on the side of the road and with headlights on: how Ukrainians should drive according to the new traffic rules

Amendments to the traffic rules have come into effect in Ukraine, requiring drivers to follow new rules. The main ones concern turning on the headlights and prohibiting stopping on the roadside. The safety of children was not forgotten.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine supported the new traffic rules on October 20. The changes came into force immediately. OBOZ.UA reminds you of the traffic rules that must now be followed.

A well-known "temporary" rule in Ukraine has become permanent. It is the so-called seasonal requirement to turn on daytime running lights or dipped headlights (if the former are not provided for by the vehicle design) during the daytime.

This had to be done outside of settlements from October 1 to May 1, a period characterized by high humidity, fog, rain, and early dusk. Now, you must always (all year round) turn on your Dipped Beam or low beam headlights during daylight hours outside of settlements. The fine is up to UAH 510.

The rules for stopping have been changed. Now, stopping on the sides of roads and highways is prohibited beyond the limits of the relevant signs. Thus, it will now be possible to make a stop only in specially designated and indicated places. The fine is UAH 340.

Another change concerns the transportation of children in a car. Previously, special restraint systems were required to allow a child under the age of 12 and up to 145 cm tall to use a seat belt. Now it is required to be up to 150 cm tall, in which case it is prohibited to transport children without using child restraint systems. The fine for violation is UAH 510, in case of repeated violation within a year - UAH 850.
