Winter waterfalls of Western Ukraine: amazing places where nature freezes in all its glory

Winter is not only snow and frost, but also a time of amazing changes in the ecosystem. The fairy-tale world comes to life, and everything around is covered with ice crystals. Today, we will reveal the secrets of the beauty of waterfalls and learn how to get to these magical locations.

Shypit

It is located on the Pylypets River in the Zakarpattia region.

The waterfall was formed in a place where the geological layers consist of hard sandstones containing thin layers of shale rocks. These geological features resulted in the formation of this natural phenomenon.

It becomes truly picturesque in the spring, when the heat causes the snow covering the slopes of Mount Hemba to melt actively. And also in winter, when ice cascades appear.

Near the waterfall, you can buy souvenirs, homemade wine, and taste traditional dishes of the region, including bograch.

For tourists to get to this natural wonder, resorts and boarding houses organize bus trips. To help you navigate the terrain, there is a ski lift about 300 meters from the waterfall.

If you are traveling by car, take the T0718 road. Volovets railway station is also located 10 kilometers from the village.

Zhenetskyi Huk

It is located near the villages of Mykulychyn and Tatariv in Ivano-Frankivsk region at an altitude of over 900 meters above sea level.

The Ukrainian word "huk" means simply "loud sound" or "noise". It is said that it is the hum that attracts many tourists.

There is a market here where you can buy souvenirs and taste hot drinks, including mulled wine, flavorful Carpathian tea with honey, or coffee with pepper.

The route is equipped with an asphalt road that stretches for more than 3 kilometers. Then travelers will have to walk dirt paths along the Zhenets River.

We also recommend going to the Narinetskyi Waterfall, which is nearby.

Maniava

Located southwest of the village of Maniava in Ivano-Frankivsk region.

At the foot of the waterfall there is a small lake that attracts tourists to take a dip in the warm season.

According to a legend, this place once served as a pagan sanctuary, where ancient inhabitants made sacrifices to their gods asking for the preservation of youth.

There are two ways to get to the fountain from the village: you can either take a walk, which is about 5 to 7 kilometers away, or use specialized transport.

Make sure you have waterproof shoes, as you will have to cross the river several times on the way.

Bukhtivets

The waterfall is located on the Bukhtivets River near the village of Bukove, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Although the waterfall is not impressive in size, it is a real star of the local landscape. Its height reaches about 8 meters. It is not a many-level cascade, rather one powerful stream that rushes down.

The waterfall appeared in a place where a small stream cut its way through a rock massif called "flysch". This is a special type of rock consisting of layers of sandstone, clay shale, etc.

The distance from the highway is approximately 6 kilometers. If you are traveling by car, look for a barrier - this is where the hiking part of the route begins. Then you need to walk only 50 meters to the path leading to the wooden stairs. Go down the stairs and cross the pond on a stone bridge.

Kamianka

The waterfall is located within the Skole Beskydy massif in the Stryi district of Lviv region.

The waterfall was formed as a result of a geological fault in the mountain range. It caused the waterfall to divide into two separate parts by a massive stone block.

Water falls from a height of about 7 meters. There are also many rock fragments here, which allows you to cross the rapid current.

If you are traveling by car, head in the direction of Verkhnie Syniovydne to the village of Kamianka. The distance from the Skole railway station is about 10 kilometers, so we recommend using local transportation or walking.
