Winter 2024 anti-trends: what things are long overdue to be thrown away (and what to replace them with!)

There are couturiers who seem to be able to predict two things: in which direction fashion will develop in the distant future and, accordingly, what clothes will not leave trends for decades. For example, in the 50s and 60s of the last century, Yves Saint Laurent created and popularized trapeze dresses, fancy transparent blouses, women's pantsuits and safari style clothes, and adapted the trench coat to a female silhouette. Nowadays, similar products are "flaunted" in numerous collections of fashion houses, and they fit perfectly into modern looks.

1. Large knit hat

Back in 2018, almost every other streetstyle star wore massive chunky wool hats. A special advantage of such models was that they were warm and comfortable even in the bitter cold. So why did they leave the trends? Because they are not easy to style and visually distort the proportions of the body (make the head "bigger"). Fortunately, there are alternatives: a panama hat made of eco-fur, a beanie hat, or, for example, a cap.

2. Sweater/jumper with pearls, rhinestones, etc.

In the 80s and up until the early 2000s, sequins, pearls, rhinestones, or fur elements were considered to be something that made things more festive and spectacular. Today, such design solutions are inappropriate and look "cheap". It is better to choose a monochrome sweater made of natural fibers. It will "help" you out for more than one year!

3. Uggs

In the early 2010s, these shoes were one of the most stylish options for winter. Ugg boots warmed the feet perfectly and did not cause discomfort even after wearing them all day. Around the same time, massive sneakers and boots decorated with long fur were at the peak of their fame. Fortunately, all these trends for "giant" shoes are now a thing of the past. They visually made the legs look bigger and did not always integrate well with the outfits. Nowadays, lace-up boots and high leather boots without decor are in fashion.

4. Fitted jacket

Outerwear with a silhouette cut is not only an anti-trend, but also an impractical thing for winter. If it's too thin, you'll feel cold, and if it's too bulky and fitted, it will visually distort your figure proportions. Therefore, we advise you to wear straight or oversized outerwear, which is not going to go out of style in the coming years.

5. Outerwear with fur

Say no to down jackets with fur pockets, collar, sleeves, or hood. Firstly, fluffy details visually add extra volume to different parts of the body, so the image looks unbalanced. Secondly, the fur quickly becomes untidy, and the whole garment loses its presentable appearance. Pay attention to duffle coats, Teddy coats, eco-fur coats or sheepskin coats.
