Why you shouldn't sit on the washing machine when it is working and how to get rid of vibrations
When it comes to minor problems with household appliances, many people tend to solve them in the easiest way possible. So, when the washing machine jumps during the washing cycle, they just try to keep it in place at all costs instead of finding the root cause of why the washing machine is doing so.
OBOZREVATEL explains what could be the reasons for the washing machine vibrations, how to solve them, and why it's not a good idea to sit on the washing machine when it is working.
Why you shouldn't sit on the washing machine when it is working
First of all, this is because the top of the washing machine is not designed to be sat on and can break or deform, damaging the device.
It can also cause injury if you fall off the washer during particularly strong vibrations. And even if you don't fall, too much vibration will not have a good effect on your spine.
In the end, sitting on the washing machine will not help you get rid of the vibration problem and it will continue to suffer from overload or other technical problems.
Why the washing machine jumps
There can be several reasons for this "behavior" at once, and all of them are quite simple to solve. As a last resort, you can buy anti-vibration rubber stands that "dampen" vibrations during washing at about 300 UAH.
The washing machine is crooked
This is the most common cause of a bouncing washing machine. Try to shake it from one side or the other and you will feel which of its legs is "lame". Depending on the manufacturer, you can adjust the leg by hand or with a wrench. Ideally, you'll also need a spirit level to show you exactly which side needs to be adjusted. However, you can also do it by eye.
Incorrect loading
Sometimes you can simply overload the washing machine. In this case, it will start vibrating. Simply stop the wash and take out some of the clothes, putting them aside for the next time.
Make sure that the laundry is evenly distributed in the drum. If not, this can also lead to vibrations as the load in one part of the drum will always be higher than in the other.
Forgotten packaging details
When it comes to new washing machines that are obviously not working as they should and vibrating too much, the reason may be that you have simply forgotten to remove some of the packaging materials or shipping bolts that are installed by the manufacturer. These bolts are usually located on the back of the washer and should be removed during installation.
If you don't see any bolts, the manufacturer probably uses special straps to secure the drum. Check for them and remove them before using the machine.
Problems with the shock absorbers or counterweight
However, not all causes of vibration are that simple. If you have a fairly old washing machine and it has recently started to vibrate worse than before, it is possible that the shock absorbers that kept it quiet have failed.
There may also be problems with the counterweight used to balance the washer. If its fasteners become loose over time, the counterweight can create additional vibrations and shake the washer.
To solve these problems, it is better to contact experienced craftsmen.
