Why the USSR's Little Blue Light was blue: a simple reason

For many years, "Little Blue Light" or, in the original, "Goluboy Ogonyok" was a symbol of Soviet television and an important part of New Year's celebrations.

This program became a kind of embodiment of Soviet culture, where the country's best artists performed against the backdrop of festive scenery, favorite songs were played, and comedians entertained the audience with witty jokes.

However, many people still have questions about the meaning of the word "blue." Some people attribute it to the fact that it is a winter color that symbolizes snow and frost, while others jokingly hint at latent homosexuality. But in fact, the answer to this question is quite simple and prosaic.

History of the name "Little Blue Light"

This program appeared on TV in 1962. At that time, the audience immediately liked it because of its relaxed and festive atmosphere. However, this show was not always known as "Little Blue Light" because the name was changed several times before the final version was approved.

The fact that the light eventually became blue is due to the technical features of Soviet television in the mid-twentieth century. Back then, black-and-white TV sets glowed slightly with a blue tint. By the way, this is why such a stable expression as "blue screens" appeared at the same time.
