Which cars have the best seats: luxury selection of 2024-2025
Drivers spend a lot of time behind the wheel, so it's no surprise that a bad car seat can put off a potential purchase. Pay particular attention to comfort, support, range of adjustment, and quality of materials. You should take it for a test drive and explore the available settings, including height, pedal distance, lumbar support, and backrest angle.
Seats in premium cars should primarily guarantee quality and comfort, while seats in sports cars are designed to allow the driver to connect as directly as possible with the mechanics and dynamic capabilities of the car. Between these two extremes, there is a whole range of requirements for seats, so experts have compiled a rating of premium models with the best car seats.
Rolls-Royce Phantom
The large and luxurious Rolls-Royce Phantom is one of the most comfortable cars on sale. High-quality leather covers almost every part of the incredibly well-insulated cabin, and a sophisticated air suspension almost completely isolates passengers from the road.
Much of the Phantom's sense of luxury comes from its seats, which are among the most comfortable on the market. Even the multi-seat – Rolls calls it the "Lounge Seat" – is exceptional, with rotating outer parts and a built-in armrest. The top-of-the-line version, called "Immersive Seating," includes separate reclining rear seats and a large center console.
Additional seat-based options include ventilation, wood veneer picnic tables, retractable footrests, massage functions, and additional headrest cushions, as well as the required champagne fridge.
Alpine A110 R
The Alpine A110 R, as a shortened and unassuming version of the already very sporty standard car, is close to the specification of racing cars. This also applies to the one-piece carbon fiber seats made by Sabelt.
Carbon fiber throughout the A110 R minimizes weight – even the wheels are made of the expensive material – and creates one of the sharpest sports cars on sale. The car's seats are an integral part of the overall experience, connecting the driver to the performance and dynamics on offer while providing superior cornering support.
McLaren Artura
McLaren creates some of the finest sports cars. This attention to detail in the development process extends to every aspect, including the seats. The McLaren Artura seats are low-slung, perfectly supported, and yet comfortable enough for long-distance travel. The driving position is ideal, which, combined with the low-angle and tactile steering wheel with a thin rim, helps make the Artura a comfortable, confident sports car.
Porsche 911 S/T
The Porsche 911 S/T is a special limited edition created to celebrate the company's 60th anniversary. It combines all the best features of the 911 GT3 RS, although it has a less sharp appearance and the addition of a manual transmission.
It also features gorgeous bucket seats that are set low and upholstered in retro fabrics. Porsche has used the last six decades to hone and refine the 911. Its current incarnation undoubtedly boasts some of the best seats around.
BMW 5 Series
Like the 911, the BMW 5 Series has been updated and improved many times over several decades. The car has entered its eighth generation 50 years after the original appeared in 1972.
The BMW 5 Series boasts some of the best front seats available, with a wide range of full-electric adjustments included as part of the optional Comfort Plus package. Meanwhile, the rear seats are so spacious and comfortable that it's hard to recommend spending more on the larger 7 Series.
Volkswagen Golf
The eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf is one of the best family hatchbacks on sale, combining a near-perfect balance of practicality, economy, comfort, and great driving. Volkswagen tends to install slightly firmer seats than some other manufacturers, but experts believe that this provides a firm sense of support during long journeys.
Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
The Italian firm has turned the page on ergonomics in recent years and now creates some of the best driving positions in the business. The installation of excellent seats, especially in the most sporty cars, has also helped to make this welcome step forward. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is a fantastic sports sedan with sharp handling and a distinctive engine that is made even more enjoyable by its high-quality, comfortable seats.
Volvo EX40
The Volvo EX40 is an electric SUV based on its XC40 sibling with an internal combustion engine. The car's front seats offer many adjustments and are ideal for long trips. There is not as much space in the back as in competitors such as the Lexus RZ, but the seats are still very comfortable for adults. And the good news for vegans is that the Volvo is finished exclusively in leather-free fabrics.
Honda Civic Type R
Bright red, low-slung sports seats have been a central feature of the Honda Civic Type R since its original Japan-only EK9 incarnation and are as iconic as its Championship White paint job.
Although the Civic Type R's seats are sporty low, they are wider and more comfortable than many competitors. They're also housed in one of the best interiors in the family hatchback class, with a neat design and excellent build quality – just one of the many aspects that made the Civic Type R a top pick for the year.
Lexus LS
In its fifth generation, the car has become a serious competitor to the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series when it comes to undeniable comfort. Top-of-the-line LS models feature individual heated and ventilated rear seats, user memory, 14-way power adjustment (plus four-way adjustment for butterfly headrests), and retractable footrests. Insertable rear window blinds, air suspension with a smooth ride, and climate control with a body temperature sensor are additional options that bring the car to a new level of comfort.
