What you should never do on board during takeoff and landing
Takeoff and landing are the most dangerous phases of air travel, and it is in such moments that the crew demonstrates all their skills and professionalism. At this point, the plane is flying close to the ground and moving at high speed.
OBOZREVATEL has collected the most common mistakes during a flight. Violation of safety rules can be dangerous.
Do not sleep during takeoff and landing. At these stages of the flight, the pressure on board changes dramatically, which often causes passengers to experience tinnitus. During sleep, a person cannot yawn or sip water to balance the difference. As a result, the passenger may face high blood pressure, dizziness, and in the worst case, ear bleeding.
Do not turn off the ventilation above the seat. Ventilation removes dust particles and germs from the air, so it reduces the likelihood that passengers will catch respiratory illnesses.
Imagine that your airplane collided with a flock of birds and you're listening to your favorite tracks while others memorize the safety briefing. During takeoff and landing, you need to take off your headphones so you don't miss important instructions and can react quickly to a possible emergency.
Do not drink soda. Pressure drops during takeoff and landing can cause gases in the body to expand by 25 percent. Soda can cause abdominal cramps.
Do not take off your shoes. Some passengers immediately take off their shoes as soon as they enter the aircraft cabin. This act disturbs other people and can be dangerous. In the event of an emergency, shoes may interfere with evacuation. In general, flight attendants do not recommend walking barefoot in the cabin even during safe phases of the flight.
Do not move the seat back. Usually, passengers are indignant when they are asked to move their seat to an upright position. However, few people know that this rule ensures safety on board.
Do not forget to switch your phone and other electronic devices to airplane mode. Any devices with data transmission create an electromagnetic field that can affect the operation of the onboard system. There is a possibility that even an SMS message may interfere with it.
