What to feed raspberries with in spring: tips from experienced gardeners

Spring fertilization is very important for the kind of harvest you can get from your garden and vegetable garden. In particular, a lot depends on how you care for raspberries in the spring.
The hosts of one YouTube channel shared what to use and how to apply the fertilizers. According to them, raspberries need NPK ones.
That's because in the spring, the berry needs to get enough nitrogen to develop more green mass and form flowers and then ovaries. And nitrogen is the main element of NPK fertilizers, those providing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. It is desirable that the substance contains the elementss in a ratio of 16:16:16. In this case, raspberries will receive all the nutrition they need to start the growing season. The amount of fertilizer is calculated from the proportion of 50 grams per 1 square meter. However, you can apply a little less of it.
To ensure that the fertilizer works well, it must be applied properly. Here's what you need to do to treat raspberries properly:
- remove all debris from the ground and loosen the topsoil with a rake;
- apply the fertilizer in dry weather, but before it rains so that it dissolves well and penetrates deep into the soil;
- take an amount of fertilizer measured according to the size of your raspberry tree and sprinkle the dry substance evenly over the soil.
Another way to nourish raspberries is to apply fertilizer using a drip tape. Install it along the rows of plants and supply water with nutrients through it. This will help prevent the soil from drying out and enrich it by delivering all the elements directly to the roots of the raspberry bushes. However, if you are applying NPK fertilizer by drip, you need a lower concentration than the specified 50 g per 1 m².
In general, raspberries are fertilized several times a year. The spring fertilization should enrich the plant with nitrogen to stimulate the vegetation. The second time raspberries are fertilized is in early summer before flowering. And the third time the fertilizer is applied in the fall, when the plant has finished bearing fruit. This helps it regain its strength. Autumn fertilization prepares raspberries for winter and lays the foundation for the next year's harvest.
