The older generation of our relatives always treated the holiday of St. Nicholas with special tenderness. Mothers used to cook cookies and gingerbread or other desserts for their children and call them "mykolaichyky".

Honey gingerbread cookies

Gingerbread has always been and remains a favorite treat for children and adults alike. They are easy to make and can be shaped into any shape that will only whet your appetite even more. Stars and angels are the most popular gingerbread shapes for this holiday. The finished gingerbread is covered with protein glaze to make it look even more festive.

Choux pastry dumplings

The dough for this dish is made from flour boiled with boiling water. Vegetable oil is also added to it, which makes the dough very plastic. It is very easy to make dumplings from this dough, so even children can be involved in this process.

Borsch with crucian carp

This dish is cooked in porcini mushroom broth. After cooking according to the traditional recipe, fried crucian carp are added to the pot. The dish is brought back to a boil and then removed from the oven.

Pickled mackerel

Salt, water, onions, and spices are the ingredients used to make the marinade for the fish. The cooled marinade was supposed to cover the fish, which was placed under pressure for 1.5 hours.

Varenukha

This is an alcoholic drink made from dried summer fruits and berries. The mixture was infused with an alcohol base in a clay pot, after which honey was added and the pot was covered with dough. The packaged alcohol was put in the oven for 10 minutes, then cooled and served.
