Social media users who watched this movie criticize it because of the "confusing" ending. Thus, we will explain why it ended like this and what The Little Things is all about (to watch the trailer, scroll down to the end of the news).

The plot

In the story, Kern County Deputy Sheriff Joe Deacon is sent to Los Angeles on a routine business trip to collect evidence. However, he gets involved in a search for a serial killer who is terrorizing the city. The hunt for the maniac is led by Jimmy Baxter, a sergeant in the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. He is impressed by Deacon's sixth sense and unofficially invites him to join the investigation. And then everything begin to fall into place.

What the ending means (warning: the text contains spoilers!)

Closer to the middle of the film, the audience is introduced to a young man named Albert Sparma, who is fond of investigations and has a habit of changing his job frequently. The protagonists are convinced that he is responsible for the murders, so they begin to monitor the suspect's house. At one point, Deacon decides to go to the store. Seeing this, Sparma comes out and offers Baxter a ride to show him where he buried his recent victim.

Upon arrival, Jimmy starts digging up the place where a woman was supposedly buried. However, later it turns out that Sparma deceived him - he didn't kill anyone, he just decided to play with the police. This makes Baxter angry, so he hits Albert with a shovel and kills the young man.

A few minutes later, Deacon arrives to pick up Baxter and, realizing what has happened, tells his "partner" to bury the body while he gets rid of the victim's belongings and car. And, as it turns out, he already has experience in hiding evidence. A flashback shows Deacon accidentally shooting a woman in the woods. Then, together with his wife, he decides to hide how the victim died.

According to the publication, the movie does not explain how the other victims were killed or even whether Deacon killed them all. Therefore, it is impossible to say for sure whether the deceased Albert Sparma was innocent. After all, in the finale, a maniac is wanted who matches the description.
