September 30 is a day that combines a wealth of cultural, historical and religious events. It is a date that is marked by several holidays, each of which has a special meaning for certain groups of people.

At the same time, this day has witnessed numerous historical events that have influenced the course of world history. Read more about this in the OBOZ.UA article.

Feast of St. Gregory, Bishop of Great Armenia

One of the most important religious holidays of this day is the celebration of the Holy Martyr Gregory, Bishop of Great Armenia. Gregory the Illuminator, as he is often called, was a key figure in the introduction of Christianity and played an important role in the conversion of the Armenian people to the new faith in the fourth century.

It was on his initiative that Armenia became the first state to officially adopt Christianity as the state religion in 301. Therefore, the Armenian Apostolic Church is still called the Gregorian Church in honor of this saint.

International Translation Day

September 30 is also International Translation Day, dedicated to the professional activities of translators who ensure mutual understanding between different cultures and peoples. This day was not chosen by chance - it coincides with the death of St. Jerome, who translated the Bible from Greek and Hebrew into Latin. This translation is called the Vulgate and is still the official biblical text of the Roman Catholic Church.

Orange Shirt Day

Another important holiday that is celebrated on September 30 is Orange Shirt Day, known in Canada as a day of remembrance for children who have suffered violence and discrimination in the residential school system for indigenous peoples. It honors the victims of colonial policies that aimed to assimilate Indigenous peoples in Canada by separating children from their families and cultures.

All-Ukrainian Day of Libraries

Every year on September 30, Ukraine celebrates the All-Ukrainian Library Day, a holiday that honors not only libraries as centers of knowledge, but also librarians - those who preserve and enhance the cultural and scientific heritage of the country. It was established "...taking into account the great contribution of Ukrainian libraries to the development of national education, science and culture and the need to further enhance their role in society...".
