The day of St. Cyriacus the hermit
On September 29, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of St. Cyriacus the Hermit. He lived in the fifth century and was known for his asceticism and deep faith.
The saint was born in Corinth, where his father was a priest. At an early age, he took monastic vows and devoted his life to prayer and service to God. Kyriacus chose the life of a hermit and settled in the desert, where he spent most of his life avoiding worldly temptations and resorting to strict fasts. He became famous as a miracle worker.
Day of Educator and Preschool Workers in Ukraine
In Ukraine, the Day of Educator and Preschool Workers is celebrated on the last Sunday of September. In 2024, its date fell on the 29th.

Memorial Day for the Babyn Yar tragedy
September 29 is also the day of commemoration of the Babyn Yar tragedy, one of the most horrific episodes of the Holocaust. It was on this day in 1941 that the Nazi occupiers began mass shootings of Kyiv civilians, primarily Jews, in Babyn Yar. Over 33,000 people were killed in a matter of days.
The memory of this tragedy is an important reminder of the inhumanity of war and a call to fight against all forms of hatred and discrimination.
