October 9, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of the Apostle James the Alphaean. He was born in the city of Capernaum, which is located in modern Israel. According to legend, James was one of the closest disciples of Jesus Christ. There is an assumption that James was the brother of the apostle James, who was also called Thaddeus. Little information has survived about the apostle's life. We know about a large number of missionary sermons. James preached in Judea, Syria, and even founded the apostolic cathedral in Tel Bethany.

In Ukraine, realtors celebrate their professional holiday on October 9, albeit unofficially. The events in the first decade of the month are traditional and annual. The last decade has seen an increase in the number of real estate agents - in some areas, their number has doubled or even tripled.

October 9 is also celebrated in different countries around the world:

  • National Nanotechnology Day in the United States;

  • 1596 - approval of the Union of Brest, foundation of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
  • 1621 - After the war, a peace treaty between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Ottoman Empire is signed in Khotyn, whereby the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth consolidated its victory over Turkey.
  • 1655 - Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky defeats the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the Battle of Horodok near Lviv.
  • 1874 - the Universal Postal Union was established. This day has been celebrated as World Postal Day since 1957.
  • 1944 - the NKVD/NKGB decree "On measures to strengthen the fight against the OUN underground and the liquidation of armed OUN gangs in the western regions of Ukraine" was issued.
  • 1963 - the Mi-8 helicopter flies for the first time.
  • 1989 - the USSR recognized the right of workers to strike.
  • 2006 - North Korea tests nuclear weapons.
  • 2009 - Obama is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
  • 2023 - Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip begins.
