October 21, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of St. Hilary the Great. Hilary lived in Palestine in the III-IV centuries. In his youth, he traveled to Alexandria, where he studied with St. Anthony. Upon returning home, Hilary distributed his property to his relatives and the needy, and he went to live in the desert. Hilarion led an ascetic life, prayed and fasted, but one day he was attacked by robbers. The man preached a sermon to them and managed to convince them to give up their life of crime. Thanks to this, Hilarion became famous, and people were drawn to him. It is said that Hilarion could heal serious illnesses. The saint died on the island of Cyprus, having previously predicted his death.
