November 5, according to the New Julian calendar, is the day of remembrance of the martyrs Galaction and Epistimus. Galaction lived in the city of Emesa (Lebanon) in the third century. His pagan parents were unable to have a child for a long time, but when they began to pray to the Christian God, a miracle happened - they conceived a son. At the age of 24, Galaction became engaged to Epistyma, who professed idolatry, but under the influence of her fiancé, she also converted to Christianity. The couple decided to dedicate their lives to service, enter a monastery near Sinai, and live a pious life.

On December 22, 2015, the UN General Assembly decided to declare November 5 as the World Tsunami Awareness Day. Tsunamis result in numerous human casualties, cause huge damage and are a common problem for many countries.

November 5 is the International Day of the Caregiver. The need to celebrate this date was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly on November 5, 2014.
