Church holiday on October 17

On October 17, the Orthodox Church celebrates the feast day of the holy martyr Hierotheos, who lived in the first capital, Athens. He, along with Dionysius, embraced the Christian faith and became a disciple of the Apostle Paul. Later, Hierotheus was ordained a bishop, already being a member of the Athenian Areopagus. According to church legend, he and Dionysius witnessed the burial of the Virgin Mary. Hierotheos was martyred by pagans when he tried to spread the Christian faith among them.
