What electric cars are worth buying on the secondary market: top used models

Electric cars are gaining popularity in the car market. It's not a cheap pleasure: according to recent analytics, the average price of an electric car is 28% higher than the cost of a gasoline-powered car.

However, experts emphasize that in order to save money, it is better to buy some electric cars on the secondary market. Nigel Tunnicliffe, co-founder and CEO of Coastline Academy, noted that prices for used electric cars have been falling recently, so now is the best time to invest successfully.

Tesla Model 3

The new 2024 Tesla Model 3 will launch in the US with a price of $40,630, but the 2022 model with 80 thousand kilometers can be purchased for $22,995.

Tesla Model 3 is the perfect combination of economy and quality. The electric car has good handling and high reliability. "The savings on gasoline, as well as the reduced initial price when buying a used car, make a used Tesla a better long-term investment," said Tunnicliffe.

Hyundai Kona

Jan Kawecki, Marketing Manager at F1Blast, said that the best used electric car currently available on the market is the Hyundai Kona. The battery on the Kona is as strong, if not more durable, than many other electric vehicles. In addition, the EV has a very attractive design.

"When you get into a modern electric car, you'll be surrounded by a lot of screens, buttons, and options. This is not the case with the Hyundai Kona. The interior is minimalistic and stylish, the dashboard has become much clearer," the expert said.

The 2024 Hyundai Kona will start at $34,050, which is a fairly low price for electric vehicles. Obviously, the used model is even cheaper.

Tesla Model Y

"While Tesla's aren't the only electric vehicles worth buying used, the fact that the brand has been around longer than most competitors means there are many more used models on the market," said Tunnicliffe.

The 2019 Model Y stands up to many current electric vehicles, and a used model will last for many years. Even previous Tesla models have competitive specifications. The new 2024 Model Y costs $44,630, but American experts say you can find a 2021 model for as little as $29,499.

Chevrolet Bolt

The Bolt is known for its reliable battery life and minimal maintenance needs. Rob Dillan, founder of EVHype, noted that the 2024 model starts at $27,495, but you can find the 2019 model from $15,532.

Toyota bZ4X

Toyota is one of the most popular brands in the car market. The Toyota bZ4X provides reliability, modern technology, and safety features. The 2024 model starts at $44,420. The bZ4X is a fairly new model from Toyota, released in 2022, so you won't find many used models on the market yet.
