Cars on the road

Buying a car is always an important decision. There are many nuances to consider: from the price-quality ratio to safety performance. The average purchasing power continues to decline, and car prices are rising in all areas.

Motor Trend experts have released a rating of the most profitable cars to buy in 2024. Even the cheapest vehicles are gradually rising in price, although, for example, some compact cars can compete with more expensive brands.

Mazda 3

The overall driving experience of the Mazda 3 is quite good. It is a stylish, reliable, and relatively affordable model. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder atmospheric engine with 191 hp provides plenty of power. Overall performance and available all-wheel drive make the Mazda 3 a serious competitor in the segment. Among the disadvantages is the not very spacious rear seats.

Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is more mature than the previous generation models. The model offers significant value, especially in terms of safety, although many of the Civic's best features are reserved for higher-performance models. Despite this, the base Civic delivers excellent returns and is equipped with the car's 2.0-liter atmospheric four-cylinder engine with 158 hp. Those looking for reasonable performance will have to opt for the 1.5-liter turbo engine.

Subaru Impreza

The Subaru Impreza has truly excellent handling and, like all Subarus, all-wheel drive is standard. Despite the well-matched chassis and suspension, hardly anyone would dare to call the Impreza (or even its rebooted RS trim) "sporty." The car is powered by a 2.0-liter Impreza's 152 hp four-cylinder base engine.

Toyota Corolla

The 2024 Toyota Corolla in sedan or hatchback body style is a constant favorite of the ratings, where the key is the price-quality ratio. The car combines impressive interior space with high safety performance. The downsides include interior materials and driving dynamics that are inferior to the Civic, although the base Corolla, which is equipped with a 2.0-liter I-4 engine with 169 hp and a variable speed, is noticeably faster than other basic compact cars. The Corolla can be a powerful competitor with the turbocharged, manual all-wheel drive GR Corolla at the top of the lineup.

Volkswagen Jetta

The Volkswagen Jetta offers a stylish design and adequate fuel consumption. The compact Volkswagen sedan is inexpensive, but unfortunately, it is not well equipped. Experts note that the ride and handling are far from ideal, the interior looks cheaper than it is, and any interaction received from Jetta's available manual transmission leaves much to be desired. The basic 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with 158 hp allows you to move faster than the competition while consuming less fuel.

Hyundai Elantra

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is perhaps one of the best vehicles in this ranking. Spacious and fuel-efficient, the Elantra has been named a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick. The base Elantra, equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 147 hp combined with a variable transmission, certainly has many advantages over similarly priced competitors.

Nissan Sentra

If you're looking for a good deal on a solid entry-level car, experts advise taking a closer look at the recently updated 2024 Nissan Sentra. Although in certain areas it does not quite match the leaders in the segment, it has an attractive appearance, sufficient cost savings, and a large interior space. On the other hand, the weak power-to-weight ratio means that the Sentra's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which develops 149 hp, is likely to have a hard time delivering a quality ride, and all-wheel drive is not available on any trim level.

Kia Forte

The cheapest compact car you can buy is the 2024 Kia Forte, whose simplicity can easily be considered an advantage. The Forte has impressive fuel economy thanks to its 2.0-liter engine with 147 hp. The Forte GT compensates for its minor shortcomings with a powerful powertrain and a host of features at a lower price than most competitors.

Mitsubishi Mirage

The Mirage is the simplest definition of a basic car for 2024. Although it weighs almost half as much as the average car, its driving dynamics are far from ideal, to put it mildly, its safety is marginal, and its performance is poor. Even if you take into account how inexpensive the Mirage is, its disadvantages are quite significant.

Nissan Versa

The Nissan Versa was named the cheapest new car of 2024. Fuel economy is quite good, and the 1.6-liter four-cylinder atmospheric engine, which develops 122 hp, provides a quality ride. The cheapest model gets a five-speed manual transmission or an available CVT. The Nissan Versa offers a comfortable ride and has sufficient cargo space. According to experts, safety indicators make the car a reliable choice.
