Volkswagen announces recall of almost 120 thousand cars due to "unexpected" door opening

The automotive giant Volkswagen is forced to take radical measures. It is about the need to recall more than 120 thousand ID.4 models manufactured in the United States.

As it turned out, water can damage the panel of electric door handles, which will cause the doors to unlock unexpectedly. The details were reported by Motor1.

A problem with the electric door opening mechanism can cause the door to open suddenly, which undoubtedly threatens safety while driving. VW representatives said that fortunately, they have not yet received any reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this issue.

The ID.4 door handles have a traditional design, but for one thing – they are electric. Pulling the handle activates an electric mechanism that opens the door – that's where the problem lies.

Some models may have problems with water getting into the handles and the mechanisms inside. This can lead to malfunctions, particularly when unlocking the door.

VW emphasizes that it will check the ID.4 door handles and replace faulty parts if necessary. In addition, the new software will be downloaded to "update the door handle parameters".

However, the new parts and software code are currently under development, so VW does not provide a timeframe for when the fix will be available.

VW advises owners to contact an authorized Volkswagen dealer immediately to have the car checked.
