Unpopular tourist locations in Europe worth visiting: where to go in the off-season
Sometimes there comes a time when finding a place to relax becomes a real challenge. And going to famous cities like Rome, Krakow, and Budapest is no longer interesting. And we understand this! Thus, it's time to explore new places full of interesting and unique attractions. To know where to go during the golden season, read below.
Piedmont, Italy
Piedmont is located in the north of the country. It is considered a real wine mecca. Famous alcoholic beverages are produced here: Barolo, Barbaresco, and Asti. Tourists can also taste the famous truffles here. From September to October, the Italian region turns into the capital of taste. It hosts numerous gastronomic festivals dedicated to mushrooms, nuts, and chocolate.
We also recommend visiting the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The church was built in 1491-1498. It houses the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, where the Shroud of Turin is kept.
Also, go to the Royal Palace. In 1997, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
And, of course, visit the Egyptian Museum, the first in the world with such a theme. Here tourists will see a variety of sarcophagi and statues. By the way, the building has rooms for restoration and study of mummies and papyri.
Lugano, Switzerland
It is located on the northern shore of the lake of the same name in the canton of Ticino. Interesting fact: in 1956, the Eurovision Song Contest was held here for the first time.
First, we recommend going to the Swissminiatur open-air museum. Here travelers will see small copies of the country's most famous attractions. In particular, the Federal Palace in Bern, and the castles of Rapperswil and Chillon.
Also, be sure to take the funicular to Mount Monte Brè. Here you can enjoy incredible views of the city and the Alps.
Then head to the Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angioli. The walls of the shrine feature ancient frescoes from the 16th century. By the way, the painting was done by the famous artist Bernardino Luini. In the paintings, he depicted the life of Jesus Christ: from the last supper to the resurrection.
For those seeking a relaxing vacation, we recommend a stroll in Ciani Park. The area is decorated with sculptures, fountains and flower beds. The natural center was divided into two parts, one of which was made in Italian and English styles.
Ukanc, Slovenia
The village is located on the western shore of the picturesque Lake Bohinj. It can be reached by cable car from the top of Mount Vogel.
Be sure to visit one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Europe - Savica. It is divided into two picturesque streams. For the brave, we recommend a two-day hike to the Seven Lakes Valley. The location is in the Triglav National Park.
We also recommend visiting one of the local restaurants and trying baked trout with local Mohant cheese. It has a strong smell and pungent taste. By the way, it is made only in this region, so don't miss the opportunity to try this dairy delicacy.
Bavaria, Germany
It is the largest federal state in the country. It is often associated with the largest beer festival in the world - Oktoberfest. It has been held in Munich since 1810. The festival features a parade of local breweries. By the way, traditional sausages and pretzels are served with the intoxicating drink.
We recommend starting your trip to the region with the Bayerischer Wald. The reserve is famous for its unusual observation deck, the Waldwipfelweg. Tourists can walk across a unique wooden bridge hanging from a height of 30 meters.
Also, go to the salt caves. They are located in the community of Berchtesgaden. Since ancient times, minerals have been mined here. Nowadays, an underground museum has been set up here. Travelers will be able to dress up in miner's outfits and go on a tour by small train. Some of the attractions are equipped with light shows and various sounds.
Loire Valley, France
A unique region of the country and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This French corner is famous for its vineyards that existed as far back as the Roman Empire. By the way, in the XIX century, most of them were damaged by grape phylloxera.
An interesting fact: there are more than 60 castles here, some of which are state museums. In particular, the largest is Chambord, then there is Chenonceau, which served as a residence for women, and the royal Cheverny.
We also advise you to visit the most fabulous Le Château d'Ussé. It is said that this building inspired the writer Charles Perrault to write the fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty". It houses antique furniture and a collection of costumes from the 18th and 19th centuries.
We wish you a good trip!
