Unbeaten Ukrainian champion sensationally lost his title by knockout. Video
Ukrainian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Yaroslav Amosov (27-1) lost to 33-year-old Jamaican Jason Jackson (16-4) at Bellator 301 and lost his welterweight championship, which he had held since 2021. This was the first defeat in his career for the 30-year-old native of Irpin.
Before the fight at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago (USA), bookmakers called the Ukrainian a favorite, accepting bets on his victory with odds of 1.20. The Jamaican's success was estimated at 4.60.
From the very beginning, the match was not in favor of our compatriot. From the first minutes, Jackson had a noticeable advantage in the stand-up over the Ukrainian fighter.
Jaroslav tried to take the fight to the ground with takedowns, but the Jamaican contender defended himself well against all attempts.
Amosov's situation was getting worse with each round as if he was doing almost nothing in the fight. The denouement came in the 3rd round.
A fighter from Kyiv region missed a shot to the head, lost his balance and fell to his knees.
Jackson rushed to finish him off, Ukrainian tried to get up but fell back to the octagon floor, after which the referee stopped the fight.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, in February this year, Amosov (27-0) defended his title in a fight against American Logan Storley (14-2). The victory at the tournament in Ireland ended in a 50:45, 50:45, 50:45 victory.
It is important to note that Yaroslav Amosov is not only a professional MMA fighter but also proved his courage in the fight against the Russian aggressor during the de-occupation of Kyiv region.
Prior to that, Yaroslav confidently defeated the current champion Douglas Lima (32-10), and was scheduled to defend his belt in May 2022 against Michael Page (20-1).
However, due to the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the representative of Ukraine refused to fight.
It should be noted that Yaroslav's mother hid her son's championship belt in one of the cellars during the evacuation from Irpin. After the Russian army fled, Amosov found it in his destroyed house.
