The fight took place in Las Vegas

Puerto Rican boxer Edgar Berlanga (22-1, 17 KOs) suffered the first defeat of his career, losing to legendary Mexican Canelo Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs). The fight for the WBA Super, WBC and WBO super middleweight belts ended with the scores 117-110, 119-109 and 119-109 in favor of the current champion.

Álvarez occupied the center of the ring from the first minutes, starting as the number one. Berlanga was often pressed against the ropes, trying to respond with a jab.

At the beginning of the third round, the challenger was knocked down. Canelo distracted his opponent with a feint and then sent him to the canvas with a left hook.

During the fight, Berlanga landed several good cross attacks, keeping the champion at bay with his jab.

In the 7th three minutes, the Puerto Rican was unable to keep his balance and fell again, but without a knockdown.

In the end, the Mexican fighter almost got a slap on the wrist for showing off when he turned away from his opponent before the bell and went to his corner. Berlanga did not land many hits, but in the 11th round he almost ended the fight early himself when he missed a hard punch.

For Canelo, this was his fifth straight victory after losing to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022. Prior to that, he defeated Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia.
