Ukrainians will be able to watch a parade of 6 planets this week: how to see a unique phenomenon called a sign of God
Starting Tuesday evening, January 21, Ukrainians will be able to watch the parade of 6 planets. This unique phenomenon was once called a sign of God, as it was believed to announce important events on Earth.
Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus will be in a line when viewed from the Earth, and in March they will be joined by Mercury. This extraordinary "alignment" will be visible in the southeast of the sky, writes DailyMail.
Ancient beliefs
According to historical records found in ancient Egyptian temples, Babylonian tablets, and Chinese calendars, the alignment of the planets has fascinated humanity for thousands of years. The ancient Mayan civilization interpreted it as a warning from the gods that would lead to tragedy on Earth.
However, modern astrologers associate the parade of planets with a period of enlightenment, transformation, purification, and strengthening of spiritual energy.
Scientific explanation of the "parade" and how to observe it
According to astronomers, the alignment of the planets occurs when several planets appear on the same side of the Sun. From Earth, this gives the impression that all the planets are arranged in a long diagonal line stretching from east to south across the night sky.
The six planets will slowly form until Jan. 21 and will be visible for about four weeks after that, experts say.
Preston Dyches, a public engagement specialist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said that Venus and Saturn will be in conjunction, meaning they will appear closer together than the other planets.
Jupiter will shine brightest in the southern part of the sky, while Mars will have a reddish glow in the east. And Saturn will appear with a yellow tint.
"Uranus and Neptune, two very distant ice giant planets in our solar system, will also be visible in the sky," said Dyches. However, he emphasized that they will only be visible with binoculars or a telescope.
Astronomers note that in March, Mercury will also join the parade, which last made the same alignment in June 2024.
And although the parade of planets may look like a horizontal alignment, it is only an illusion based on our perspective from the Earth, scientists say. In fact, all the planets are located at different distances.
