Upon reaching the age of 25 and 45, Ukrainians must paste new photos in their booklet passports that correspond to their age. This is a mandatory requirement, and it takes 1 month. If you do not paste a photo in the old passport in time or replace it with a new document, it is considered invalid, and you will face a fine of 17 to 51 UAH.

As explained by the State Migration Service, the booklet passport is valid for an unlimited period. That is, no one will force you to exchange it for an ID card. However, if the holder of the document has not pasted a photo into the passport within a month of reaching 25 or 45 years of age, the booklet passport is exchanged for an ID card without fail.

At the same time, if you do not paste a photo into an old-style passport in time or do not replace the passport with a new-style document, it is considered invalid. And according to Article 197 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine, the use of an invalid passport entails punishment:

  • for the first time - a warning;
  • in case of repeated violation within a year, a fine of UAH 17 to 51.

How much does it cost to get a passport?

As of October 7, the cost of passport and migration service packages at the offices of the State Enterprise "Document" has changed in Ukraine. Now:

This service includes both the production of an internal passport of a citizen of Ukraine and a foreign passport.

  • Issuance of migration documents for foreigners and stateless persons costs UAH 1250.

This includes issuance of residence permits and other documents confirming the legality of staying in Ukraine.

  • Exchange of a driver's license - UAH 950.

This procedure covers changing a driver's license both for technical reasons (change of personal data, expiration of validity) and in case of loss of the document.

  • Exchange of a vehicle registration certificate - UAH 950.

In the event of a change of ownership, registration of new vehicles, or change of any other data, car owners must pay this fee.

  • Apostille affixing - UAH 650.

An apostille is required to legalize documents used abroad, and it is a standard procedure for many Ukrainians.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers has shortened the time for urgent issuance and exchange of a passport of a citizen of Ukraine. Now, instead of 10 days, they will be issued in 7 days.
