Ukrainians are being deceived with the payment of "Zelenskyy's thousand": a new fraud scheme is exposed

Fake messages about the payment of 1000 UAH from the government have appeared on the Internet. Source: NBU

The fraudsters took advantage of the Ukrainian government's decision to pay UAH 1,000 in financial support to citizens. They started spreading fake messages on the Internet to gain access to Ukrainian bank accounts.

The new fraudulent scheme was reported by the Ministry of Social Policy. The government agency noted that cybercriminals are looking for their victims on Telegram channels.

The Ministry urged citizens and the media not to trust such messages, not to click on the relevant links, and not to disseminate this data. These resources are fraudulent – those who follow the link will be asked to provide personal bank card details, after which fraudsters will be able to access all the funds in their accounts.

"All reliable information on how to apply for financial support for UAH 1000 will be posted on the official government resources. And the opportunity to receive UAH 1,000 under the Winter ePidtrymka program will be provided through the official Diia application," the Ministry explained.

Official information on social support for the population is available on the websites of the Ministry of Social Policy:

UAH 1000 from the government: how to get the money

To receive assistance for UAH 1000, you need to issue a virtual National Cashback card in the Diia app. After activating the "Get 1000" option, the funds will be automatically transferred to the recipient's account. There are no plans to tax these funds, as they are considered state aid. The program is being implemented on the basis of the remaining funds from the National Cashback program, for which the government has allocated about UAH 3 billion.

According to analysts, payments under the program have a "labeled" purpose and can only be used for certain types of expenditures. These include:

  • payment for utilities;
  • purchase of medicines made in Ukraine;
  • books, theater tickets, and other cultural events;
  • donations to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This mechanism allows us to channel funds to support critical sectors of the Ukrainian economy, which creates additional demand and supports the domestic market. With the option to donate to the army, Ukrainians can direct part of their aid to support the defense forces, but cannot directly allocate funds to defense due to international obligations.

According to forecasts, about 15 million people may join the program, which means that the program will require about UAH 15 billion. The Ministry of Economy notes that the program does not require additional state budget expenditures, as funding is provided from funds not used in 2024 under other budget programs.

But, as OBOZ.UA has already reported, the money is intended for all citizens living in Ukraine. That is, Ukrainian refugees living abroad will not be able to participate in the program. The program is aimed at supporting the country's population in the face of possible winter disruptions and has restrictions on the use of the funds received.
