Yulia Starodubtseva defeates Anna Kalinskaya

Ukrainian tennis player Yulia Starodubtseva has shown some real skill at the prestigious tournament in Beijing with a prize pool of $8.95 million. In the Open China 1/8 finals, our compatriot, World No. 115, knocked out World No.14 Anna Kalinskaya from Russia.

In the second game, Starodubtseva defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-0. The 24-year-old native of Kakhovka, who made her way to the main draw through qualification, took 95 minutes to win. During this time, Yulia made one service winner and converted five out of eight break points.

The Ukrainian recorded two double faults in her passive. For Starodubtseva, this is the first victory over a player ranked in the world top 15 in her career.

Our tennis player will compete with the winner of the Naomi Osaka (Japan) - Koko Hauff (USA) pair for a ticket to the semifinals and $325,000 in prize money.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Ukraine's third-ranked Diana Yastremska (WTA) trained with 15-year-old Russian tennis player Yegor Navrazidi, causing hysteria in the Russian media.
