Ukrainian designer Andre Tan named his top 6 fashion movies and TV series worth watching
Ukrainian fashion designer Andre Tan looks for inspiration, among other things, in films and TV series dedicated to the fashion industry. Most of them tell the story of prominent figures who once turned the world's perception of style upside down.
The Ukrainian named three film projects that are already available to watch and three more series that will be released in the coming months. On Instagram, the fashion designer shared that he expects a lot from the upcoming premieres and advises moviegoers to watch his personal favorites.
Yves Saint Laurent, 2014
It's easy to guess that the film is dedicated to the fashion genius who attracted the attention of society and critics in the 60s of the last century when he was still a very young designer.
"The film shows how the designer fights against all those who dare to doubt him or restrain him, revealing the self-destructive methods of the designer's control over himself," Andre said about "one of his favorite films."
McQueen, 2018
Alexander McQueen was not only a talented designer but also a prominent figure. During his lifetime, he managed to create his own fashion house, worked as a creative director for Gucci and Givenchy, and left a significant mark on the industry.
The 2018 film will give viewers the opportunity to discover McQueen's personality in a new way through interviews with his closest people and archival footage.
Martin Margiela: In His Own Words, 2019
"Martin Margiela is perhaps the most mysterious person in the fashion world: you will find only a couple of photos of him on the Internet, so in a documentary about his life and career, he acts as a narrator. You will see only his hands on the screen. It's a very unusual, mysterious and interesting movie!" Andre Tan described the film.
Martin Margiela believes that people should appreciate his work first, not his personality, so he does not give interviews and does not "show his face". However, in 2019, he allowed viewers to see the world and fashion through his eyes.
Cristobal Balenciaga, January 19, 2024
The multi-episode project will show the formation of the legendary couturier, where Alberto San Juan as Cristobal Balenciaga begins his stellar career in Paris. This is another opportunity to look at the life of the man behind one of the most recognizable brands in the world.
The New Look, February 14, 2024
"The series tells the story of the life of French couturier Christian Dior and his relationship with another legend, Coco Chanel. I'm sure it will be a fascinating series," Andre Tan wrote.
High & Low: John Galliano, March 8, 2024
The year 2011 was fatal for the British designer who showed great promise at the Dior fashion house. He was fired for making anti-Semitic remarks while intoxicated in a Parisian pub. The subsequent showdown in court also did not play into John Galliano's hands. Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Bernard Arnaud and Charlize Theron portrayed this story on the screen.
Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote about the scariest movie of recent years, which caused mixed reactions among critics and viewers. The scary thing in the plot is not paranormal phenomena but the cruelty of the characters, who are children.
