Ukraine set a record for world futsal championships

The Ukrainian national futsal team has won the biggest victory in the match for third place in the history of the World Cup. The day before, our team, led by coach Oleksandr Kosenko, smashed France and doubled the previous achievements of the tournament participants.

"The Blue and Yellows" defeated the "Gallic Roosters" with a 7-1 victory. Before that, the goal difference between the teams did not exceed three goals in the bronze final.

In 1992, the Spanish national team beat Iran 9:6. 12 years later, the Brazilians defeated their principal rivals from Argentina 7:4. And in 2012, Italy left Colombia no chance – 3:0.

Now the Ukrainians have raised the bar to +6. For our futsal players, it was the second match for the bronze medal in history – in 1996, the "Blue and Yellows" lost to the Russians 2:3.

Kosenko's wards also won personal awards. Danylo Abakshyn won the tournament's "silver boot," scoring seven goals. And Rostyslav Semenchenko was named the third-best player of the World Cup.

As OBOZ.UA reported, a few days ago, in the dramatic semifinals of the 2024 FIFA World Cup, Ukrainians lost to Brazil (2:3).

In the 1/4 finals, the "Yellow and Blues" defeated the main sensation of the tournament, Venezuela, 9:4. The last time Ukraine played in the 1/2 finals of the World Cup was in 1996. On September 24, in the 1/8 finals, the Ukrainians were stronger than the Netherlands – 3:1.
