In Ukraine, the first 16 seized paintings from the collection of collaborator Viktor Medvedchuk were sold at auction, including a painting with a landscape for UAH 76 thousand. In total, the state budget managed to earn almost UAH 317 thousand. The entire collection of Medvedchuk's paintings (136 pieces) was previously estimated at almost UAH 4 million.

This was reported by the Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA). "The most expensive lot among the works sold today (November 13 – Ed.) was the painting "Rural Landscape with a River Against a Mountain Background," sold for UAH 76 thousand. All lots were sold through the Prozorro.Sale system in full compliance with the procedures," the agency said.

Another 120 paintings will be sold during the next auction – part of the collection will be sold every day. The next 19 paintings are scheduled to be sold on November 14.

It is noted that the funds received from the sale will be directed "to the economy and the Armed Forces." In particular, it is about the purchase of military bonds, which supports the state's defense capability. "It is only fair that the illegally acquired property of traitors and collaborators works for the state," commented ARMA Head Olena Duma.

It should be noted that out of 285 Medvedchuk's paintings seized and transferred to the ARMA, 149 were recognized as cultural heritage of Ukraine. This decision was made by experts from the National Art Museum.

"These works were planned to be transferred to Ukrainian museums. However, the relevant draft law No. 11280-1 on the peculiarities of managing cultural property did not find sufficient support among MPs," the ARMA said.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the last watch from Medvedchuk's collection was sold at auction in Ukraine. The Dolce & Gabbana watch fetched UAH 285 thousand. For all three auctions, the state earned almost UAH 7 million.
