The popularity of solo travel is growing, and over the past month, the number of searches has increased by 250%. However, experts emphasize that safety should remain a priority, especially when choosing a hotel room.

Traveling alone is attractive as it offers an opportunity to be with yourself, gain unique experience and enjoy freedom of choice. But along with the pleasures, such trips require increased attention to one's safety. From choosing a hotel to following simple privacy rules, every detail can play a key role in ensuring a relaxing vacation. Locksmith Watford security experts have collected important tips for Express on how to stay comfortable and safe in a hotel.

1. Those on the ground floor

Such rooms are the most vulnerable to intrusions, especially if they have access to a balcony. Give preference to rooms on the upper floors.

"If your room number is announced aloud by staff, request a new room to maintain discretion. Hang the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on your door throughout your stay to deter attention," the experts advised.

2. Those with poor lock protection

According to the source, sometimes hotel key cards can be bypassed with master keys. Therefore, it is worth closing the room door with additional locks or latches. In case they are not available, you should consider a portable door lock or an alarmed door stopper.

You also need to make sure that the peephole of the door is closed and no one can see who is inside the room.

3. Those with hidden surveillance cameras

Most often, cameras can be found in smoke detectors, vents, or furniture. Experts advise using a flashlight to detect glare from the camera lens.

As for other safety issues when traveling alone, you should not tell anyone when and where you plan to go or post real-time geolocations. At the same time, you need to warn your family about your whereabouts and, if possible, give them the opportunity to track your exact location in another country.

Experts also advise avoiding night walks in a little-known city, as there is a good chance of getting into trouble. "If you need food or supplies, consider delivery services or dining within your hotel," experts say.
