Toyota's new inexpensive rival to Mazda and Nissan revealed

Japanese Toyota will bring back into production an inexpensive sports model that will compete with the new Mazda, Nissan, and Honda. Almost 20 years ago, this car was removed from the model lineup, and now a revival is being prepared.

New details are reported by Carscoops. In 2026, the fourth generation of the Toyota MR2 will go into production. The novelty will be powered by a new engine with a capacity of about 400 hp.

Earlier, the company showed the Toyota FT-Se concept. The production car will be made in its style. It is also reported that the new model will have all-wheel drive. Previously, it was expected that the model would be offered with a manual and an automatic transmission to choose from.

There have also been rumors that the new Toyota MR2 is being considered as an electric car or hybrid. Strict environmental regulations require some electrification. However, there is no specific information about this.

Like the original model, the new car will retain a mid-engine layout, a two-seater interior and a roadster body. That is, the roof can be removed.
