How To Train Your Dragon is one of the most popular animated movies, having won a number of awards and being included in the list of the top 250 films according to IMDb. And its film adaptation is due to be released soon.

The premiere is scheduled for June 2025, and the first trailer has already appeared online. Director Dean DeBlois, who created three parts of the animated movies, said that the dragon will be extremely detailed.

The How To Train Your Dragon animated series were based on the book series of the same name by British children's writer Cressida Cowell. The first part of the franchise was released in 2010, the second - in 2014, and final part of the trilogy - in February 2019.

Earlier, Empire published the first look at the upcoming animated feature film. The picture shows the main character, young Hiccup, played by Mason Thames.

Dean DeBlois noted that the filmmakers have brought a different emphasis to the movie.

"It is a fully credible, photo-real dragon. The character represents all of the oddballs out there, and there are many of us. Thames was a perfect fit for inhabiting Dragon’s young human hero. There was a bit of awkwardness, but also a vulnerability to him which [came] with the fact that he was 15 when we were auditioning him," said DeBlois.

The cast will also include Nico Parker, Gerard Butler and Nick Frost.

The movie is scheduled to premiere on June 13, 2025.

The story tells of a young Viking named Hiccup who lives in the village of Berk, where an ancient war between humans and dragons is taking place. Hiccup has to kill the first dragon in his life, but the situation turns out that the boy befriends the dragon and calls it Toothless. Hiccup wants to prove to the villagers that peace between humans and dragons is possible.

In total, How to Train Your Dragon received two Oscar nominations. The franchise also includes several TV series and short films.
