Movies are a way to escape from reality, and sometimes you want to escape really far away, for example, to travel to another historical or even fictional era. Netflix streaming gives its viewers this opportunity.

There are many time travel movies on the platform. Here are the eight that its editors suggest you watch.

The Adam Project

The film revolves around the main character who has lost a loved one, a fairly typical plot for the genre. The action takes place in a dystopian future. One day, Adam Reed (Ryan Reynolds) discovers that his beloved wife has disappeared. He tries to go back in time to save her. When he suffers a disaster in the present, he is forced to travel back in time and work with his 12-year-old self to save their future. Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Catherine Keener and Zoe Saldana also star in this hilarious comedy action movie.

Captain Nova

According to the plot of the movie, the world is on the verge of an environmental catastrophe. To save it, the main character has to go back in time. But time travel takes her back to her teenage years. The 2021 Dutch sci-fi film is suitable for family viewing - it was even selected as the opening film of the 35th Cinekid Festival in the Netherlands, where it won the Best Children's Film and Best Dutch Children's Film nominations.

In the Shadow of the Moon

The detective story of the sci-fi thriller takes place over several decades. In Philadelphia, police officers Thomas Lockhart and Winston Maddox are investigating a series of murders. It takes place in 1998. Nine years later, Lockhart has to take on new murders that mimic the previous ones. The officer comes across a suspect. But she doesn't seem to age.

The Knight Before Christmas

The main characters of the movie are an English knight from 1334 and a high school teacher from modern Ohio. Vanessa Hudgens plays Brooke Winters, a teacher who meets a strange man named Cole (Josh Whitehouse) on Christmas Day. The man has been sent to the future so that he can complete a task and receive a knighthood. But what will he choose - chivalry or true love?

The Long Story Short

What would you do if you found out that you had very little time left with your loved one? This is the predicament that the main character of the movie, Teddy, finds himself in. A woman with extraordinary powers overhears his conversation, during which Teddy confesses that he is delaying the wedding date with his fiancée Leanne. For this, she casts a spell on him, and he now lives one day a year. He misses his wedding, the birth of his daughter, and many other small and memorable moments in between. Will Teddy be able to achieve a happy ending?

Mirage

What would you do if you woke up one day and found out that your husband was married to someone else and your daughter was never born? That's exactly what happens to a character named Vera in a 2018 Spanish detective story. It all starts when the characters move into a new apartment and find a movie recorded on VHS during a thunderstorm in 1989. A little boy tragically died then. While watching it, a similar storm happens. And Vera discovers that she can communicate with the boy in the video, which has serious consequences for both of them. Heroine must find a way to save the boy from 1989 - and her family in the present day.

See You Yesterday

Eden Duncan-Smith plays the role of C.J. in the sci-fi film, a young prodigy who, together with her best friend Sebastian (Dante Critchlow), works on developing time travel. One day, the police kill the heroine's brother because he was carrying a cell phone, which the officers mistook for a weapon. After learning about this, CJ decides to correct the fatal mistake. As in most time travel movies, her actions in the past complicate the future. The screenplay for the 2019 film was written by Stephen Bristol and Fredric Bailey. For their work, they received the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.

When We First Met

In this romantic comedy, Adam Devine plays Noah Ashby, a man who is trying to avoid being friendzoned by the girl he likes at all costs. To do this, he needs to travel through time. He first meets Avery Martin (Alexandra Daddario) at a Halloween party in 2014. Avery sees Noah as just a friend, and the next day he accidentally meets his future fiancé. At their engagement party, a drunken Noah passes out in a photo booth that was also at the Halloween party. Then the events develop in the spirit of Groundhog Day: Noah continues his journey to the day he met Avery and uses new approaches to win her heart.
